ALGANDY
Algandy, officially the Duchy of Algandy, is a dukedom
in the northwestern corner of the League.
It is bordered by The Great Western Ocean to the north, Chaubrette
to the west, the Veermounts to the south and the Fenslands
to the east. An arm of the Veermounts known as the Barren Hills
juts northwards to penetrate central Algandy where it culminates
in a cluster of six mountain peaks known as the Six Sisters.
The Duchy of Algandy consists of eleven earldoms. Algandy's
three northernmost earldoms, Jaegerwald, Badenwald and Nordgard
have shores on the Great Western Ocean. In the west Vesterland,
Marwald, Westfall and Veermarch border with Chaubrette. The southernmost
of these, the Earldom of Veermarch shares a mountainous border with
the Grand Princedom of Veermark. Although Veermarch is subject to
Algandy, there is a lot of trade across the border and many of the
nobles of Veermarch are related to the nobility of the Veermark,
including the country's head of state, the Grand-prinz Konrad. East
of Veermarch lies Algandy's largest earldom, Fensgard which, as
its name implies, borders the Fenslands. Also sharing this border
are the easterly earldoms of Osterune and Solnis.
The only earldom in the Duchy without an external border's is the
dukedom's capital Redcliff, which has a population of over 10,000
people. Despite its name there are no red cliffs nearby. A suggestion
has been made that the name comes from Rood Cleth, a name meaning
battle banner in Old Algundian. Redcliff has been the only capital
Algandy has known. Redcliff castle has been the home of the Archdukes
since the start of the Duchy.

THE LEAGUE
The number of states in the League has fluctuated over
time between nine and twenty seven. The official start date of the
League was the year zero LT, the current year is twelve seventy
LT.
The catalyst for the formation of the League was the
collapse of the Golden Empire under a wave of barbarian invaders
from the eastern steppes. With central authority gone following
the assassination of the last Solar Emperor the provinces were forced
to look to their own defences. The luckiest ones were those near
the frontier which had permanent legion garrisons. They held together
in a hastily formed alliance and have managed to keep the light
of civilisation burning until the current day.
GEOGRAPHY OF THE LEAGUE
The League at present stretches from the northern Wilds, where winter
lasts for half a year to the burning great desert of the south inhabited
by fierce nomadic barbarian descendants of the destroyers of the
Golden Empire. In the west the great uncharted Western Ocean forms
the boundary of the League, in the east there is no natural feature
acting as a barrier. Beyond Algandy the forests and swamps extend
into a featureless plain known as the steppes. Civilisation stops
at theeastern border of the Duchy of Algandy, (although if you spoke
to a Chaubetian or a Veermarker they would claim civilisation stopped
at their own border). Beyond lies the land of the heathen and the
barbarian.
The neighbouring League states to the Duchy are the
Barony of Chaubrette, known for its iron mines, the Princedom of
Veermark, known for its fine but smelly cheeses, and the City of
Losse, famed for its vineyards and its University. All of these
are to the west of the Duchy as it is the most eastern of all the
League states.

THE FENSLANDS
Four times the size of Algandy and home to barbarian clans, the
Fenslands are a worrysome neighbour. The Fenslands are located to
the east of Algandy. Once a powerful nation spreading itself across
what is now the League, its people were forced
back untill the land was crushed into a small relic of its former
self.
Although many clans squabble over land
and wealth, there are thirteen well-established clans that watch
over the smaller factions and struggle to keep the Fenslands wealthy
and at peace with the League.
Trading has become the life blood of Fensland
leaving many Jarls measuring their wealth, by how many warriors
they support and how many League luxuries they can serve during
feasts.
To the east of Fensland lie the wild and
deadly Barrenlands. Clans across the border keep their eyes wide
incase of an uprising by the wildfolk of the Barrenlands.
Established clans are:
- Axbyte
- Balder
- Morfax
- Grimarr
- Ravengull
- Helganarr
- Oddkull
- Skorageir
- Lupendrax
- Ulgendon
- Volund
In addition to these, there are also over sixty small
unrecognised clans, factions of old clans that disagree with the
old ways, or even with the new. There are also lost clans cut off
during the great war of the Golden Empire to the south borders of
Phoinice. Their traditions and memories of the home land are unknown
to those of Fensland. Whether they remember where they come from
or whether they still worship those of Kunn or Knux is also unkown.
